REVIEWS WITHOUT BOOZE
When I embarked on my journey to sobriety, I dived headfirst into a plethora of books, podcasts and YouTube channels, all focused on sobriety. These resources have been incredibly helpful in reinforcing my commitment to this path. Now, I want to share some of these valuable resources with you.
The Unexpected Joy of Being Sober
Catherine Gray

This book was a joy to read. As a woman who drank her way through three decades of mostly singledom in London, a lot of this book resonated with me. It's funny and easy to read, but with real insight and helpful guidance.
The Sober Diaries
Clare Pooley

I think a lot of women can relate to Clare Pooley. This book highlights the ordinaryness of alcohol in our lives and how we work it into the every day moments. I'm not a mum, but I still understood her need for that treat. That glass of wine (or many). She inspires you into sobriety as she faces a serious illness sober. I listened to the audiobook, which has a 'Bridget Jones' feel about it. It's a smooth read and very heart warming.
Alcohol Explained
William Porter

A factual look at what alcohol actually is and how people become addicted. This book isn't heavy though and is easy to read. It makes a good companion alongside some of the others I have recommended.
One for the Road

This podcast is a such an enjoyable listen. Warm conversations with people from all walks of life who have become sober. Actors, sobriety coaches and authors all share their personal stories. Dave makes you want to be there with them.
Sobriety Unleashed

This is a personal one for me. I signed up to Simon Chapple's Be Sober website when I first quit. I have enjoyed his down-to-earth coaching style and advice. His partner on the podcast is Ellen Reid, a sobriety coach and owner of Sobriety Sisterhood. I have personally chatted with Ellen on her Zoom catch ups which has been instrumental in helping me along my journey. These podcasts are refreshing, warm and with insightful guest speakers.
Stop Drinking Expert

Craig Beck is straight-talking and to the point. He can debunk any belief you have about drinking as he delves into questions sent to him via email. If you were wondering if you're on the right path before, you'll know for sure after watching a few of his videos.
There is no Wall
Allie Bailey

This became one of my favourite books ever. After hearing her speak on Sober Dave's podcast One for the Road, I was compelled to read her book. This is an intriguing insight into just how functional a 'functional alcoholic' can really be. Allie is an Ultra Marathon Runner who battled with alcohol dependency, anxiety and depression for years. A mesmerising book, so well written you do not want to put it down.
